Which Continent is known as the White Continent?

Our Earth has seven continents and each one is different in its land, weather and living conditions. Some continents are even known by special names because of their unique features. One such name is the “White Continent.” This name is given to the continent that is covered with snow and ice. It is one of the coolest regions on the Earth.

Which Continent is known as the White Continent?

The continent known as the White Continent is Antarctica. It is called this because almost the entire land is covered with thick ice and snow all  round. When seen from space or far away, it looks completely white, which is why it got this name.

Why it is called the White Continent?

Antarctica is covered with huge layers of ice that have formed over millions of years. Snow keeps falling and never fully melts due to the freezing temperatures. The white ice reflects sunlight which makes the whole continent shine brightly. This gives it a clean, white look to the continent, just like a big sheet of ice.

Location of Antarctica

Antarctica located at the southernmost part of the Earth, around the South Pole. It is surrounded by the Southern Ocean and is far away from other continents. Because of its extreme cold and isolation, it is not easy for humans to live there permanently.

Climate and Weather Conditions

Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth. In winter, temperatures can drop below -80°C. Strong winds and snowstorms are common. Even though it is full of ice, it gets very little rainfall, which is why it is also called a polar desert.
