The recently concluded Second Voice of Global South Summit marked a significant virtual gathering hosted by India on November 17. This summit, a follow-up to the January event, showcased India’s commitment to fostering collaboration among countries in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Oceania — collectively known as the Global South. The inaugural summit, themed “Energy Security and development: Roadmap to Prosperity,” united 125 nations to discuss shared perspectives in preparation for the G20 Leaders Summit in September 2023.
The virtual summit served as a pivotal conclusion to India’s G20 presidency, aiming to assess the commitments made during the New Delhi G20 summit. It functioned as a platform for member countries to share their perspectives and priorities, emphasizing the theme “Together for Everyone’s Growth with Everyone’s Trust.”
DAKSHIN: Center for Excellence:
During the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a global center for excellence named DAKSHIN, designed to benefit countries of the Global South. This initiative, proposed during the first Voice of Global South Summit in January, underlines India’s commitment to fostering cooperation and development among these nations.
The Second Voice of Global South Summit comprised 10 sessions, with inaugural and concluding sessions at the Head of State/Government level, both hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Themes of Leaders’ Sessions:
- Inaugural Session: The theme was “Together, for Everyone’s Growth, with Everyone’s Trust.” This session set the tone for collaborative efforts and trust-building among Global South nations.
- Concluding Session: Titled “Global South: Together for One Future,” this session aimed to encapsulate the collective vision and commitment of Global South nations towards a progressive world order.
The summit focused on sharing key outcomes from various G20 meetings during India’s Presidency. It provided a platform to address global challenges arising from recent developments and discussed strategies to sustain momentum for a more inclusive, representative, and progressive world order.
