A Book Titled ‘My Beloved Life’ By Amitava Kumar

Amitava Kumar’s My Beloved Life tells the story of Jadunath “Jadu” Kunwar, a man from a small village in Bihar, and his daughter Jugnu, as they navigate the challenges of life in a rapidly changing India. The novel explores their journeys of love, loss, and growth, while also reflecting on significant historical events that shaped the country.

Through their experiences, Kumar weaves a tale of resilience, showing how ordinary people can overcome adversity and create meaningful lives despite the odds. The book combines a personal narrative with a broader view of India’s political and social transformation over the years.

About the My Beloved Life Book

My Beloved Life begins in 1935 in a small village in Bihar, where the protagonist, Jadunath “Jadu” Kunwar, is born against a backdrop of calamities and survival. From the outset, Jadu’s life is marked by hardships, including the tragic death of his sister and a series of early personal losses.

However, his journey eventually takes him beyond his village to Patna, where he becomes a history professor, gets married, and earns a Fulbright scholarship. His personal growth is set against the political and historical events of India, from the pre-Partition era to the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in the 1970s.

The second part of the novel shifts focus to Jadu’s daughter, Jugnu, who, after a sheltered life in the village, moves to Delhi to pursue journalism. Her story unfolds in a more modern context, as she grapples with the complexities of marriage, career, and her identity as an Indian woman.

Jugnu’s life eventually takes her to the U.S., where she works for CNN and faces new challenges, including a re-examination of her father’s life and struggles during the pandemic.

Throughout the novel, Kumar skillfully intertwines personal experiences with the political and social climate of India, from Mahatma Gandhi’s era to the present day. He explores themes of caste, racism, and the enduring legacies of colonialism and independence, offering a multifaceted view of life in India and the broader world.

The book’s alternating narration, between Jadu’s third-person perspective and Jugnu’s first-person account, adds richness and depth to the portrayal of a father-daughter relationship set against the backdrop of a changing nation.

VoIP Full Form, Know Everything About VoIP

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that lets people make voice calls over the Internet instead of using regular phone lines. VoIP turns your voice into digital signals, which travel through the internet. This allows users to make calls from computers, smartphones, or special VoIP phones. VoIP has made communication cheaper, especially for long-distance or international calls, and offers extra features like video calls and voicemail.

Full Form of VOIP

The full form of VoIP is Voice over Internet Protocol. It is a technology that allows voice communication over the internet instead of traditional phone lines. VoIP converts your voice into digital signals, which are sent through the internet, making phone calls cheaper and offering additional features like video calls and call forwarding.

How Does VOIP Work?

VoIP works by turning your voice into digital data, which travels over the Internet. When calling a regular phone, the signal gets converted back into an analog signal so the call can be received normally. You can use VoIP by connecting a computer, a VoIP phone, or even a regular phone with an adapter. Wi-Fi hotspots in public places, like airports and cafes, also allow you to use VoIP services wirelessly.

What Equipment do you Need for VOIP?

To use VoIP, you need:

  • A high-speed internet connection, such as cable or fiber.
  • Compatible devices like computers, VoIP phones, or adapters.
  • For computer-based calls, you may need software and a microphone.
  • Some VoIP services require specific devices, while others let you use a regular phone with an adapter.

Evolutions of VOIP

The first VoIP service was introduced by a company called VocalTech in 1995. This service allowed voice calls over the Internet but lacked video features. Early VoIP services often had issues like dropped calls and poor quality. However, Skype, launched in 2003, helped improve VoIP by adding better sound quality and video calls, making it popular for everyday use. The COVID-19 pandemic also increased VoIP usage as remote work and virtual meetings became more common.

Advantages of VOIP

VoIP has many benefits:

  • Lower Costs: VoIP calls, especially long-distance or international calls, are cheaper than regular phone calls.
  • Extra Features: VoIP offers features like voicemail-to-email, video calls, and call forwarding, which may cost extra with traditional phone services.
  • Bundled Services: Many internet providers offer VoIP services as part of their broadband packages, often at no extra cost.

Disadvantages of VOIP

While VoIP is great, it does have some downsides:

  • Power Outages: VoIP needs an internet connection and power, so it won’t work if the power goes out unless you have a backup.
  • Emergency Calls: VoIP services may not always work with emergency services like 911.
  • Call Quality: VoIP calls can sometimes suffer from delays or poor sound quality because the voice data is sent in packets.

Who is known as the Light of Asia?

The title “Light of Asia” is most famously associated with Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. He is called this because of his teachings, which helped many people find enlightenment and inner peace. Buddha’s wisdom spread across Asia and beyond, lighting the way for people seeking spiritual guidance.

Light of Asia

Gautama Buddha is often referred to as the “Light of Asia.” This title reflects his profound impact on the world through his teachings and spiritual journey. Born as a prince in Lumbini (modern-day Nepal), Buddha left behind a life of luxury to seek the truth of human suffering and the path to peace. His life and teachings continue to inspire millions across the globe.

Why is Gautam Buddha known as the Light of Asia?

Gautama Buddha is known as the “Light of Asia” because his teachings brought wisdom, peace, and spiritual guidance to the world. Born as a prince in Nepal, he left his royal life to seek the truth about suffering and found enlightenment. His teachings, including the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, helped people understand how to live a peaceful and meaningful life. Buddha’s wisdom continues to inspire millions globally.

Life of Gautam Buddha

Buddha was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, Nepal, around 563 BC. He grew up in a royal family, shielded from the harsh realities of life. At the age of 29, Siddhartha decided to leave his luxurious life, including his wife and newborn son, in search of answers to life’s suffering. He spent several years in meditation and self-denial, seeking enlightenment.

In 528 BC, after years of deep meditation under a Peepal tree in Bodh Gaya, India, Siddhartha attained self-realization and became Buddha, meaning “the awakened one.” His enlightenment allowed him to understand the nature of suffering and the path to overcome it.

Teachings of Buddha

Buddha’s teachings emphasized compassion, mindfulness, and the pursuit of inner peace. One of his central ideas was the Four Noble Truths, which explain the existence of suffering and its causes, and the Eightfold Path, which shows how to live a life that leads to the cessation of suffering.

His teachings stressed the importance of mental and physical well-being, focusing on living with kindness, wisdom, and balance. Buddha’s approach was practical and based on personal experience rather than dogma, making his teachings accessible to people of all walks of life.

The Light of Asia Poem

The title “Light of Asia” comes from a famous poem written by Sir Edwin Arnold in 1879. The poem tells the story of Prince Siddhartha’s journey to becoming the Buddha. It describes his noble character, spiritual quest, and the transformative impact of his enlightenment. Arnold’s poem spread Buddha’s teachings to the Western world and solidified his status as the “Light of Asia,” a beacon of wisdom and peace for all.

Buddha’s Influence on the World

Gautama Buddha’s teachings have shaped not only Asia but the entire world. His message of peace, love, and understanding continues to guide millions of people. Today, his followers and scholars of Buddhism celebrate his teachings, which emphasize harmony, compassion, and mindfulness in daily life. His light still shines through the wisdom of his path, showing humanity a way to end suffering and live with purpose.
