India secured gold and silver medals in archery at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on 22 October 2026. Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar won the compound mixed team gold medal, while Swati Chaudhary claimed silver in the women’s individual W1 archery event.
India also won gold in para-athletics, with Suvarna Raj emerging victorious in the women’s discus throw F54 event.
Compound Mixed Team Archery
The Indian compound mixed team of Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar defeated Indonesia’s Teodora Audi Ferelly and Ken Swagumilang by 151–148 in the final. The victory gave India its first archery gold medal at the 2026 Asian Para Games.
The Indian pair had earlier set a world record of 1,402 points in the ranking round, surpassing the previous record of 1,400 points by two points.
A mixed team archery event pairs one male athlete and one female athlete.
Women’s Individual W1 Archery
Swati Chaudhary won silver in the women’s individual W1 archery event. She lost the final to China’s Mengkan Cen by 4–6.
Her medal was reported as India’s first-ever medal in the W1 archery category at the Asian Para Games.
The W1 classification in para-archery is intended for athletes with significant impairments affecting trunk and lower-limb function and, in some cases, upper-limb function. Equipment and competition rules depend on the applicable classification regulations.
Para-Sport Classification and Another Indian Gold
Para-sport classifications group athletes according to how eligible impairments affect the activities required in a particular sport. Classification systems vary across sports.
In para-athletics, F54 is a seated throwing classification. On 22 October 2026, Suvarna Raj won gold in the women’s discus throw F54 event, adding another gold medal to India’s performances at the Games.
