Record Breaking Gold for India in Women’s Recurve Archery Team

In the women’s recurve team final, Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and Kumkum Mohod beat South Korea 5-3 to win India’s first ever gold in the event at the Asian Games.

What made this win particularly special is the fact that South Korea has traditionally been the ruling force in Asian archery. This historic win broke their hegemony in the women’s recurve team event at the Asian Games.

India also bagged a silver medal in the mixed recurve team event, in which Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod participated, and also a silver in the men’s recurve team event, in which Dhiraj was paired with Yashdeep Bhoge and Neeraj Chauhan.

Sujeet Kalkal Returns to Win Wrestling Gold

Wrestler Sujeet Kalkal won the men’s freestyle 65kg gold by staging a dramatic comeback against Abdulmazhid Kudiev of Tajikistan.

Sujeet was 2-9 down at one stage in the final but came back strongly and scored eight straight points to clinch a 10-9 win. This was India’s first ever wrestling gold since Bajrang Punia’s 2018 triumph.

India’s Success in Boxing

India clinched three gold medals in boxing on Day 14.

In the women’s 75kg event, Lovlina Borgohain defeated Bao Ziyi of China in the final by a scoreline of 5-0. She became only the second female boxer from India to bag a gold medal at the Asian Games after Mary Kom in 2014.

In the women’s 65kg category, Parveen Hooda defeated Chen Nien-chin of Chinese Taipei in the final with a score of 3-2. She became the third female boxer from India to win a gold medal at the Asian Games after Mary Kom and Lovlina.

Ankush Panghal defeated Kim Minseong of South Korea 4-0 in the men’s 80kg event. He became the first male boxer from India since Amit Panghal in 2018 to clinch an Asian Games gold.

Women’s Hockey Ends 44-Year Wait for Gold

The highlight of Day 14 was the women’s hockey team event.

India defeated the defending champions China by 1-0 scoreline to lift its first gold medal in women’s hockey at the Asian Games since 1982. Lalremsiami scored the crucial goal in the 10th minute, while Savita Punia made an important penalty stroke save to defend India’s slim lead.

It also ensured automatic qualification of India’s women’s hockey team for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Other Medal-Winning Teams of Day 14

India bagged two bronze medals in the other disciplines.

Nethra Kumanan won the bronze medal in the women’s dinghy sailing discipline, while the India men’s quadrants in sepaktakraw lost their semifinal to hosts Japan to settle for a bronze medal finish.
