Asian Games 2026: India Win Two Gold Medals in Compound Archery

India won two gold medals in compound archery events at the Asian Games 2026 held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on 30 September. Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi claimed the mixed team gold after beating South Korea in the shoot-off, whereas Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep won the women’s team gold after defeating China. The women’s team gold also helped them match the world, Asian and Asian Games record score of 238 points. In addition, the Indian duo qualified for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics by winning the mixed team event.

Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi Win Mixed Team Gold

In the mixed team final, the competition was fierce between India and South Korea. The Indian duo of Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi played against Park Junghyoon and Choi Yonghee of South Korea in the finals.

The gold medal in the mixed team final was decided via a shoot-off as both the teams remained level at the end of regulation rounds. The Indian duo scored 20, whereas the South Korean duo got 19 points.

India defeated Thailand 156-155 to qualify for the mixed team finals.

Mixed Team of Compound Archers from India Qualifies for the Olympics

This mixed team victory had further importance because it gave the country’s qualification in compound archery in the Los Angeles Olympic Games of 2028.

For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, compound archery will be held at Los Angeles 2028. Previously, India won the mixed team compound championship of the Asian Games in 2023 and with this victory in 2026, India not only defended their Asian Games title but also got qualified for the Olympic games.

In the mixed team event, there is one male and one female compound archer each. From India, the winning combination in Nagoya was Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi.

Mixed Team Compound Archers from India Qualified for the Olympics

This victory was of much importance for the country as they secured their qualification in compound archery for the Los Angeles Olympics of 2028.

This will be the first time that compound archery will feature in the Olympics at Los Angeles 2028. Previously, India had won the mixed team compound championship of the Asian Games in 2023 and this victory in 2026 not only defended their title of the Asian Games but also qualified them for the Olympics.

In the mixed team category, there are one male and one female compound archer. The winning pair representing India at Nagoya was Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi.

Compound Archery Performance by India in Asian Games

India has made an excellent performance in compound archery during Asian Games. The game of compound archery became part of Asian Games in 2010, Guangzhou.

During the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, India bagged gold medals for women’s team compound and mixed team compound archery. Thus, the 2026 success allowed India to defend their titles during Aichi-Nagoya.

The victory of the women’s team in gold further proves that the trio of Indians could deliver their best under pressure by scoring the world-best score of 238.
