The central government has approved Assam’s proposal to establish a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Kamrup district. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the “in-principle approval” from the Ministry of Education, with IIM Ahmedabad slated to mentor the new institution.
Strategic Location
With just one IIM in the entire Northeast region, the establishment of IIM Kamrup is poised to significantly impact education and industry in the area. The state government’s proposal highlighted the potential for a management hub, benefitting neighboring states like Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
Collaborative Efforts
The state government has committed to providing the necessary land for the institute, emphasizing its commitment to fostering education and economic growth. IIM Ahmedabad has been tasked with developing a detailed project report in consultation with relevant authorities.
Game Changer for Assam
CM Sarma envisions the new IIM as a catalyst for transforming Assam into an education hub, alongside other premier institutions like IIT, AIIMS, and National Law University. This move aims to attract investment, nurture talent, and drive multidisciplinary education initiatives.
