BPCL Inaugurates Floating Solar Power Plant at Kochi Refinery

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has taken a significant step toward sustainable energy with the inauguration of its floating solar power plant at the Kochi Refinery. The project was formally inaugurated by Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan on Friday, March 22, 2025. This marks a major milestone in BPCL’s efforts to integrate renewable energy sources into its operations.

The newly inaugurated floating solar power plant has several distinctive features:

• Location: It has been constructed on the rainwater harvesting pond within the Kochi Refinery premises.

In addition to inaugurating the floating solar plant, Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan also inspected the ongoing work at BPCL’s 150 TPD Municipal Solid Waste to Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant near the Brahmapuram waste dumping yard. This project aims to:

• Convert municipal solid waste into compressed bio-gas.
• Provide an eco-friendly solution to waste management.
