The actor turned politician C. Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of the State of Tamil Nadu on 10th of May, 2026. The oath taking ceremony was took place at the Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in the august presence of the political leaders, party people, noted celebrities and thousands of supporters. As Vijay assumed the Chair of CM post the state has witnessed the end of nearly six decades of two party rule between the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) and AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam).
Historic Victory Reshapes Tamil Nadu Politics
The rise of TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) has dramatically changed the political dynamics of Tamil Nadu.
The party was founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay and the TVK emerged the single largest party in the Assembly Elections in 2026.
TVK secured the 108 seats while getting additional support from alliance partners which helped the coalition cross the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.
The coalition ultimately claimed the support from 120 MLAs.
This coalition government of TVK will be supported by the parties like Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML.
Vijay Takes Oath Amid Massive Public Enthusiasm
The swearing in ceremony of the Vijay has witnessed enthusiastic celebrations from TVK supporters gathered across Chennai.
Vijay was administered the oath of office by the Respectable Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.
This ceremony also witness the presence of senior national leaders including Rahul Gandhi (Leader of Opposition) along with several film personalities and alliance leaders.
Coalition Government Takes Shape
Alongside with the Vijay total nine TVK leaders were sworn in as the ministers. Some of the prominent names included,

Interestingly No one from Congress party has took oath during the first phase despite the Congress playing a crucial role to helping TVK form the government.

In the Tamil Nadu cinema and politics have historically shared the deep connection as the several actors had transitioning into political leadership roles.
Like the former leaders M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, Vijay also successfully transformed his screen popularity into political support.
TVK’s campaign focused heavily on the youth outreach, anti-corruption messaging, welfare expansion and the governance reforms.
