DRDO Achieves Success In Akash-NG Missile Flight Test

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a significant milestone with the successful flight test of the New Generation AKASH (AKASH-NG) missile. The test, conducted at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha, showcased the system’s capability to intercept high-speed unmanned aerial targets at very low altitudes.

Key Details of the Flight Test

The flight test targeted a high-speed unmanned aerial vehicle flying at a low altitude. The AKASH-NG missile system, comprising the missile with an indigenously developed Radio Frequency Seeker, Launcher, Multi-Function Radar, and Command, Control, and Communication system, successfully intercepted and destroyed the designated target.

The Ministry of Defence emphasized that the test validated the seamless functioning of the complete weapon system, marking a significant technological achievement for DRDO and India’s defense capabilities.

System Validation through Advanced Technology

The performance of the AKASH-NG system was rigorously validated using data captured by multiple advanced technologies, including Radars, Telemetry, and Electro-Optical Tracking System deployed by ITR, Chandipur. This comprehensive validation process ensures the reliability and effectiveness of the missile system in real-world scenarios.

Witnesses to the Success

The flight test was witnessed by senior officials from DRDO, Indian Air Force (IAF), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The collaboration and expertise of these organizations played a crucial role in the successful execution of the test.

AKASH-NG: A State-of-the-Art Missile System

The AKASH-NG system is a state-of-the-art missile system designed to intercept high-speed and agile aerial threats. Its successful flight test has demonstrated its effectiveness in countering advanced airborne targets, further bolstering India’s air defense capabilities.

Path to User Trials

The success of the flight test has opened the door for upcoming user trials. The AKASH-NG system is now poised for further evaluation in realistic operational scenarios, bringing it closer to induction into the country’s defense arsenal.

Commendations from Defence Minister

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the collaborative efforts of DRDO, IAF, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and the industry for the successful flight test. He expressed confidence that the development of the AKASH-NG system would significantly enhance the air defense capabilities of the nation.
