Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma released the first edition of ‘Political History of Assam (1947-1971)’- Volume 1, marking a significant step in documenting the state’s political journey.
The Vision for Historical Accuracy
CM Sarma emphasized the need to rewrite history based on factual evidence, rather than through the lens of ideology. He criticized the approach of viewing history from a leftist or rightist perspective and advocated for a more balanced and factual representation of Assam’s political history.
About the Book
The book, envisioned to be completed in three volumes by 2025, covers the political events in Assam from 1947 to 2020. Authored by Dr. Rajen Saikia, an eminent historian and former President of the Indian History Congress, Modern India Section, this work aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the region’s political landscape during a crucial period in its history.
Addressing the Book Release Programme
During the book release at the Ground Floor Conference Hall, CMO, Lok Sewa Bhawan, CM Sarma highlighted lesser-known historical figures like Raja Prithu, who played a significant role in Assam’s history. He shared an instance of presenting a book on Raja Prithu to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was surprised by the lack of widespread recognition of such figures.
A New Perspective on Assam’s History
CM Sarma’s initiative to release ‘Political History of Assam (1947-1971)’ is an attempt to bring forward a comprehensive and unbiased account of the state’s political history. This initiative aligns with the State government’s project for the Compilation & Publication of ‘Political History of Assam.’
