The Indian Air Force (IAF) strengthened the long range precision strike by getting around 40 Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter aircraft with the air-launched BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. This development, confirmed by the BrahMos Aerospace officials and ongoing integration program reflects the India’s continued focus on to strengthening its indigenous defense capabilities and preparing for future warfare requirements.
Indian Air Force Completes Integration of BrahMos Missile
The Indian Air Force has completed the integration of the air-launched BrahMos missile as total 40 Su-30MKI fighter aircraft inducted.
According to the Alexander Maksichev, Co-Director of BrahMos Aerospace, the rearmament program is still underway and the additional Sukhoi fighters are expected to receive the missile capability in the upcoming years.
This will improves the IAF’s ability to conduct long-range precision strikes while remaining outside the engagement range of the enemies air defense systems.
BrahMos-Su-30MKI Combination
The Su-30MKI serves as the backbone of the Indian Air Force with nearly 270 aircraft in service.
It is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) under license, the aircraft is known for the its long endurance, heavy payload capacity and multi-role capabilities.
The integration of the air-launched BrahMos further enhances the its combat effectiveness.
Key Features
Around 40 Su-30MKI fighters now carry the BrahMos missile.
The aircraft has an operational range of nearly 3,000 km.
The air-launched BrahMos has the strike range of approximately 450 km.
Enables stand-off precision attacks on strategic targets.
Effective against the both land and maritime targets.
Together, this aircraft and missile provide India with the ability to strike deep inside hostile territory without exposing the pilots to heavily defended airspace.
