IIT-Bombay develops digital stethoscope called AyuSynk

IIT-Bombay has developed a digital stethoscope called AyuSynk to check patients who are infected with COVID-19. IIT Bombay converts conventional stethoscopes into digital ones. The conventional stethoscope may pose a risk of infection to healthcare professionals handling coronavirus patients.

The device is being deployed for remote auscultation (listening to chest sounds). The basic version of the digital stethoscope can also be connected to mobile or laptop through a wire or via Bluetooth. The AyuSynk digital device was developed by Ayu Devices, a startup of IIT Bombay, in association with another Biomedical Engineering and Technology incubation Centre (BETiC).

Important takeaways for all competitive exams:

  • Director of IIT-Bombay: Subhasis Chaudhuri.
  • IIT Bombay was founded in 1958. In 1961, the Parliament decreed IITs as Institutes of National Importance.
