The Government of Maharashtra has taken a major leap in AI-driven policing by partnering with Microsoft to launch MahaCrimeOS AI, an advanced platform designed to modernise and accelerate cybercrime investigations across the state. The platform was unveiled by Satya Nadella, Microsoft Chairman and CEO, during the Microsoft AI Tour in Mumbai.
Developed by CyberEye, in collaboration with MARVEL (Maharashtra’s Special Purpose Vehicle for AI governance) and the Microsoft India Development Center (IDC), MahaCrimeOS AI represents one of the most ambitious AI transformations in Indian law enforcement.
What is MahaCrimeOS AI?
MahaCrimeOS AI is an AI- and Azure-powered digital investigation platform built to streamline, standardise and speed up cybercrime case management.
Currently deployed in 23 police stations in Nagpur, it has already demonstrated impressive results:
Performance Highlights
- 80% reduction in investigation turnaround times
- Nearly 100% digital registration of investigations
- Standardised AI-powered workflows across stations
These early achievements highlight the platform’s potential for state-wide impact.
Statewide Rollout Across 1,100 Police Stations
According to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the government plans to expand MahaCrimeOS AI to all 1,100 police stations in the state.
This will empower every police station to:
- Digitally register cybercrimes
- Conduct investigations with AI-powered tools
- Follow standardised workflows
- Enhance speed, accuracy and case transparency
Fadnavis stated that AI will help “fundamentally transform the way we govern,” marking a major evolution in public service delivery.
