About the Vodafone Group

Vodafone Group is a British multinational telecommunications company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. The company was founded in 1984 as Racal Telecom, a subsidiary of Racal Electronics, and was later acquired by the telecommunications firm, Hutchison Whampoa, in 1991. The company was then renamed to Vodafone Group in 1997 and went public the same year, with an initial public offering (IPO) on the London Stock Exchange.

In the years following its public listing, Vodafone Group expanded rapidly through a series of acquisitions and partnerships. In 2000, the company acquired Mannesmann AG, a German telecommunications company, in what was, at the time, the largest corporate merger ever. The acquisition gave Vodafone control of Mannesmann’s subsidiaries, including D2, Germany’s second-largest mobile phone network.

Vodafone Group continued its expansion through acquisitions and partnerships throughout the 2000s, including the acquisition of a controlling stake in Hutchison Essar, an Indian telecommunications company, in 2007. In 2013, Vodafone Group sold its stake in Verizon Wireless, a joint venture with Verizon Communications, for $130 billion, which remains one of the largest corporate deals in history.

Today, Vodafone Group is one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world, with operations in over 25 countries and a total customer base of over 500 million. The company offers a wide range of products and services, including mobile and fixed-line telecommunications, broadband and data services, and digital television.
