The National Security Guard (NSG) has inaugurated the first-ever Mahila Commando Conversion Course (MCCC) at the NSG Training Academy located in Manesar, Haryana, in what can be termed an important step towards increasing the involvement of women in specialized counter-terrorism missions. The course lasts for a period of 12 weeks and is meant for carefully selected women personnel from State Police Forces and CAPFs. With comprehensive physical, technical, and tactical training, the course hopes to create more qualified women for counter-terror operations in the country’s security forces.
Mahila Commando Conversion Course Definition
The Mahila Commando Conversion Course (MCCC) is a specialised training program which aims at training female personnel for their challenging jobs in countering terrorism.
As per the NSG, the MCCC would be focused on training participants for their physical endurance, weapon skills, marksman skills, and tactical skills. Participants would also be trained in specialized fields including tactical intervention and hostage rescue.
The training program will be held at the NSG Training Institute located at Manesar, Gurugram district, Haryana.
What Skills Would the Female Personnel Learn Through the 12 Weeks Course?
This rigorous program has been developed to enhance the combat and decision-making skills of the candidates.
Main training courses would include,
- Physical fitness and endurance
- Weapon skills
- Marksman skills
- Tactical intervention
- Hostage rescue
- Specialized counter terrorism operations
It is aimed to develop the participants’ capability for highly specialized jobs through physical fitness and skills.
Who is Taking Part in the NSG Course?
The first MCCC is designed for selected women staff members belonging to State Police Forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
After the completion of the training programme, the women commandos will rejoin their respective forces. The NSG hopes that they will act as force multipliers by bringing back their specialized skills and experience to their respective forces.
Such a format would help in spreading the knowledge base on counter-terrorism beyond the NSG and would enhance interoperability within India’s security forces.
Why Is This Initiative Important?
It is a move towards greater operational involvement of women in the internal security framework in India. Instead of a general move towards greater participation, this course seeks to build specialist capabilities among women for performing challenging tasks in counter-terrorism.
According to the NSG, the initiative is being taken in order to increase the pool of operationally capable women, develop a common professional standard and increase coordination among the various security forces.
