Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) has collaborated with UNICEF for developing a digital communication strategy for promoting a digital campaign for Self Help Groups (SHGs). The partnership aims to highlight the importance of Social Distancing.

UNICEF would provide the necessary support to be circulated to the SHG centres in the form of Digital Multimedia content, Webinars for Virtual training (basic orientation on COVID response, key preventive behaviours), Social Media campaigns (on social distancing, home quarantine, etc.) and Vanya Radio. It is aimed to reach more than 18,000 participants and would cover tribal regions across all the 27 States.

A total of 1205 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) have been sanctioned in 27 States and 1 Union territory involving around 18,075 Van Dhan Self Help Groups. This involves over 3.6 Lakhs, tribal gatherers, in the Scheme. To start with, 15,000 of these SHGs will be promoted as Van Dhan Social Distancing Awareness cum Livelihood Centers’ through a digital training program.

What is TRIFED?

TRIFED is a national-level apex organization functioning under the administrative control of Ministry of Tribal Affairs. It was established in 1987. It became operational from April 1988. The basic objective of the TRIFED is to provide goods price of the ‘Minor Forest Produce (MFP) collected by the tribes of the country. The head office of the TRIFED is in New Delhi. In addition to the head office, it has networks of 13 Regional office located at various places in the country.

What is iGOT Platform?

iGOT platform is designed to population scale and will provide training to around 1.50 crore workers and volunteers. To begin with, nine courses on iGOT have been launched on topics like basics of COVID-19, ICU care and ventilation management, clinical management, infection prevention through PPE, infection control and prevention, quarantine and isolation, laboratory sample collection and testing, management of COVID-19 cases, COVID-19 Training.

The target groups for the platform are Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics, Hygiene Workers, Technicians, Auxiliary Nursing Midwives, ANMs, Central & State Govt. Officers, Civil Defence Officials, various Police Organisations, National Cadet Corps, NCC, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, NYKS, National Service Scheme, NSS, Indian Red Cross Society, Bharat Scouts and Guides and other volunteers.

Amid 21-days nationwide lockdown in India, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has been using scientific endeavours to develop products in an accelerated manner to combat COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of its efforts, DRDO has developed Personnel Sanitisation Enclosures (PSE) and Full Face Mask (FFM) to protect primarily healthcare professionals from novel coronavirus.

About Personnel Sanitisation Enclosure (PSE):

Personnel Sanitisation Enclosure (PSE) is a full body disinfection chamber which has been designed by Vehicle Research Development Establishment (VRDE), Ahmednagar, a DRDO Laboratory. The PSE is equipped with sanitiser and soap dispenser, applicable for personnel decontamination, one person at a time. The chamber comprises of mist spray which has been calibrated for an operation of 25 seconds and stops automatically indicating completion of operation. It includes a tank of capacity 700 litres along with mounted roof and it can decontaminate 650 personnel until the refill is required.

About Full Face Mask (FFM):

A face protection mask “Full Face Mask” has been developed by Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Chandigarh, for health care professionals handling COVID-19 patients. The light weight construction of the mask enables the user to wear it for long duration. It also comprises of commonly available A4 size Over-Head Projection (OHP) film for the protection of face. The holding frame is being manufactured with the help of Fused Deposition Modeling (3D printing).
