PM Modi Chairs 8th Governing Council Meeting of Niti Aayog, Emphasizes Team India Approach for a Developed Nation by 2047

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi recently presided over the 8th Governing Council Meeting of Niti Aayog, held at the New Convention Centre in New Delhi. The meeting saw the participation of Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors representing 19 states and 6 union territories. In his address, Prime Minister Modi underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between the central government, states, and union territories to realize the aspirations of the people and transform India into a developed nation by 2047.

Working Towards a Viksit Bharat @ 2047

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the need for Niti Aayog to play a crucial role in assisting states in formulating their long-term strategies for the next 25 years. He urged the states and union territories to align their developmental agendas with the national goals and work together as “Team India” to achieve the vision of a prosperous and developed India by 2047, termed as “Viksit Bharat.”

Promoting Cooperative and Competitive Federalism

The Prime Minister lauded Niti Aayog’s initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperative and competitive federalism, such as the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP) and Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP). These programs showcase the power of collaboration between the center, states, and districts and highlight the transformative impact of data-driven governance in improving the lives of citizens at the grassroots level.

Focus on Shree Anna and Water Conservation

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of promoting the cultivation and consumption of millets, or “Shree Anna,” especially in the International Year of Millets. He also highlighted the need for concerted efforts towards water conservation through the Amrit Sarovar program, recognizing the critical role of water in sustainable development.

Fiscal Discipline and Infrastructure Development

The Prime Minister stressed the significance of maintaining fiscal discipline at the state level and urged states to proactively utilize the Gati Shakti Portal for infrastructure, logistics, local area development, and social infrastructure. He encouraged the decriminalization of minor offenses and the creation of Ekta Malls to streamline compliance procedures and promote ease of doing business.

Skilling, MSME Support, and Tourism Development

In line with global requirements, Prime Minister Modi underscored the importance of skilling the Indian workforce to enhance employability. He highlighted the need for supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and harnessing the tourism potential of the country. Additionally, he emphasized the significance of women-led development and reiterated the commitment to eliminate tuberculosis by 2025.

Collaboration for State-specific Challenges

During the meeting, Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors put forth various policy-level suggestions and discussed specific issues that require cooperation between the center and states. These included opting for green strategies, zone-wise planning, urban planning, agriculture, quality of workmanship, logistics, and other pertinent areas.
