India and Japan strengthened their Special Strategic and Global Partnership by unveiling a comprehensive roadmap that is focused on economic security, energy resilience, technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and defence cooperation. During the Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s official visit to India on 2nd of July, 2026, both the nations has announced several initiatives which are designed to make their partnership more resilient in the time of global geopolitical uncertainties, supply chain disruptions and evolving security challenges.
India and Japan Deepen Their Strategic Partnership
Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on her first visit to the India after she assumed office and describe the relationship between the two countries as one built on the deep trust and shared values.
Speaking at joint media interaction, PM Modi has also said that in today’s difficult global environment, mutual trust remains as the India’s and Japan’s greatest strategic asset. Defence and Maritime Cooperation Receive Fresh Momentum
Security cooperation has also received the major attention during the summit.
India and Japan agreed to,

Prime Minister Takaichi has also noted the strong alignment between the India’s MAHASAGAR initiative and Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision.
She observed that both frameworks emphasise the maritime security, regional connectivity, sovereignty, sustainable development and freedom of navigation.
The convergence of these strategic visions will further strengthens the India-Japan cooperation in to addressing regional security challenges.
