PM Modi to Visit Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan for SCO Summit

Honorable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is set to start his four-day visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan from August 29, 2026. During his visit, Modi will indulge himself in bilateral interactions along with his involvement in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. He is scheduled to hold talks with Uzbekistan’s President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and participate in the SCO Summit held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. A meeting with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, will also be scheduled during the Summit. This visit of India’s Prime Minister will come when India is trying to improve its relationship with Central Asian countries along with its interests regarding security and connectivity.

When Is PM Modi Going to Visit Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan?

As per the scheduled visit, Modi is going to visit Uzbekistan during August 29 to 30, followed by his visit to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on August 31 for the SCO Summit.

His visit to Uzbekistan will include discussion with the country’s President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev in areas like trade, investment, defense, energy, digital connectivity, education and people-to-people interaction.

PM Modi is also scheduled to visit the Lal Bahadur Shastri memorial and Mahatma Gandhi Centre at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.

PM Modi to Meet With Putin

One of the important aspects of this visit would be the meeting scheduled between PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit.

Both the leaders are likely to take stock of the overall bilateral ties between India and Russia. This comes amid a series of diplomatic efforts undertaken recently, including S Jaishankar’s visit to Moscow.

What Are The Topics Under Discussion in the SCO Summit?

The upcoming 25th SCO Summit will see discussions on the emerging regional security dynamics as well as issues like terrorism, extremism and connectivity.

India was formally admitted to the organization as a full member in 2017. During the SCO Summit, the main focus of PM Modi would be India’s security, connectivity and opportunities.

Some of the dignitaries expected to grace the summit include Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Importance of Central Asia to India

India’s involvement in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is part of the larger efforts made by India to enhance ties with Central Asian nations.

Trade, investment, defense, energy, education, and technology are some areas where there can be better collaboration. The regular interaction at higher levels also helps in the broader strategy of reaching out to the region.

On his tour to Kyrgyzstan, Modi will be attending the inauguration of the sixth edition of World Nomad Games that showcase the culture of Central Asia.
