On August 25, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a major development push in his home state Gujarat, inaugurating and laying foundation stones for projects worth over ₹5,400 crore. Railway Modernisation and Connectivity Boost
Rail Projects Worth ₹1,400 Crore
Key railway initiatives dedicated by the Prime Minister include,
- Doubling of the 65-km Mahesana–Palanpur line – ₹530 crore
- Gauge conversion of the Kalol–Kadi–Katosan Road line and the Bechraji–Ranuj line – ₹860 crore
These upgrades aim to enhance passenger convenience, reduce congestion, and facilitate faster freight movement, especially in north Gujarat, a region with rising industrial and agricultural activity.
New Train Services Launched
- Passenger train between Katosan Road and Sabarmati – Improves access to religious sites and local markets
- Car-loaded freight service from Bechraji – Enhances last-mile logistics and industrial connectivity

- Widening of Viramgam–Khudad–Rampura road
- Six-lane underpasses on Ahmedabad–Mehsana–Palanpur road

Projects Under UGVCL
Electricity distribution upgrades worth ₹1,000 crore were launched in Ahmedabad, Mehsana, and Gandhinagar under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). Key benefits include,
