Reliance and Nvidia Partner to Build AI Infrastructure in India

Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries has teamed up with US chipmaker Nvidia to establish AI infrastructure in India, announced during the Nvidia AI Summit 2024 in Mumbai. This collaboration aims to position India as a leading intelligence market, with plans to deploy Nvidia’s GB 200 supercomputer technology for large-scale AI capabilities. The initiative emphasizes India’s vast IT talent, digital data, and a youthful population, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of self-sufficiency in AI development.

Transition from Knowledge to Intelligence Revolution

During the summit, Ambani highlighted the shift from a knowledge-based revolution to an intelligence revolution, crediting Nvidia’s advancements. He stated, “We are at the doorstep of the new intelligence age,” emphasizing the potential prosperity this transformation could bring to India.

Leveraging India’s Human Resources

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang underscored India’s advantage due to its large pool of computer scientists. He noted, “India has an enormous amount of data and consumers to drive that flywheel of intelligence,” positioning the country to significantly enhance its computing capacities.

Connectivity as a Catalyst

Ambani pointed out that India’s robust connectivity infrastructure, supported by Jio’s affordable data, has created immense value, estimating it to be between $500 billion and $700 billion annually. He believes this accessibility will be crucial for India to emerge as a major intelligence market.

From IT Hub to AI Centre

Ambani noted that India’s demographics and the Prime Minister’s vision are set to transform the country from an IT hub to a Centre of AI. He stressed the importance of harnessing India’s talent and innovation to drive this change, making it a significant player in the global AI landscape.
