India is getting ready to host Semicon India 2026, which will be the fifth installment of the largest event held in the country related to its semiconductor industry from September 17th to 19th at Yashoobhoomi (IICC), Dwarka, New Delhi. The said event takes place during an important period for India, as the initiatives taken in the first phase of India Semiconductor Mission (ISM 1.0) come near to becoming operational. India will present more than 500 exhibitors, over 290 international companies and delegations from more than 40 countries in Semicon India 2026.
Key Highlights of Semicon India 2026
The theme of Semicon India 2026 will be “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”. This event will be jointly organized by SEMI and India Semiconductor Mission.
As per the officials, the three-day event will have following highlights,
- More than 500 exhibitors
- Over 290 international companies
- More than 150 speakers
- Delegation from 40+ countries
- Six country-oriented pavilions
- Leading global semiconductor companies
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the event on September 17th.
Global CEOs to Join India’s Semiconductor Drive
Another major highlight will be the global CEO roundtable, slated for September 16, a day prior to the formal inauguration. This will see participation from global semiconductor industry leaders and discussions with them on India’s manufacturing and technology aspirations led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Participation in Semicon India has reportedly been growing by about 30–40% every year, signifying the rising international interest in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
ISM 1.0 Projects Head towards Manufacturing
This conference will take place at a time when projects that have been approved under ISM 1.0 move closer to commercial manufacturing. Government officials predict that at least two or three approved projects will commence commercial manufacturing by the end of 2026, while others will commence operation during 2027 and 2028.
The shift from project approval to manufacturing is crucial as it might bolster India’s domestic manufacturing of semiconductors and minimize reliance on foreign logistics.
What will ISM 2.0 Be About?
The government has approved India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 and the notification is awaited soon. The next phase will emphasize six broad areas,
- Chip Design
- Semiconductor Equipment and Materials
- Semiconductor Fabrication
- Advanced Packaging
- Research and Development
- Talent Development
India is already a leader in chip design with nearly 20% of the total global semiconductor design workforce, as per information shared by the government official.
