Sports Ministry accords recognition to Handball Association of India

The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has made the decision to grant official recognition to the Handball Association of India (HAI) as the National Sports Federation (NSF) responsible for promoting and regulating the sport within the country.

  • The Sports Ministry has acknowledged the Handball Association of India (HAI) as a fully functional National Sports Federation (NSF) tasked with overseeing the management of handball sports in the country.
  • HAI holds official affiliations with international governing bodies, including the International Handball Federation and the Asian Handball Federation, as well as the Indian Olympic Association.
  • The election of the HAI was conducted under the supervision of Retd. District Judge Justice Deepak Kumar Srivastava.

Handball Association India (HAI)

Handball Association of India was formed on 15th June 1972 by Jagat Singh Lohan. His contributions during the Munich Olympics played a crucial role in laying its foundation

HAI serves as the governing body for handball in India and has been a member of the Asian Handball Federation (AHF) and the International Handball Federation (IHF) since 1974. Additionally, it is also a member of the Commonwealth Handball Association and the South Asian Handball Federation.

The National Sports Federation of India (NSFOI)

The National Sports Federation of India (NSFOI) is dedicated to promoting the fundamental principles of sports on a national level, operating within the sports framework. They are fully committed to athlete development and supporting programs for sports accessible to all, as well as fostering high-performance sports throughout the country.
