The third edition of the INDUS-X Summit, held on 9-10 September 2024 in California, marked significant progress in advancing a joint defence innovation ecosystem between India and the USA. Co-organised by the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) and Stanford University, the event focused on deepening defence collaboration through innovation, joint research, and investment.
Key Outcomes
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between India’s Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) and the US Department of Defense’s Defence Innovation Unit (DIU) to enhance cooperation in defence innovation. The summit also featured the release of the INDUS-X Impact Report and the launch of the initiative’s official webpage on iDEX and DIU platforms.
Technological Showcase and Expert Dialogue
The event served as a platform for startups and MSMEs to showcase next-generation technologies, while two advisory forums—Senior Advisory Group and Senior Leaders Forum—enabled critical discussions on topics like future technology trends, defence supply chain resilience, and funding for defence innovation. Experts from defence industries, investment firms, academia, and think tanks from both nations participated in the discussions.
Leadership and Commitment
Amit Satija, Joint Secretary (Defence Industries Promotion), led the Indian delegation, reaffirming India and the USA’s commitment to advancing defence technology through strategic collaboration. Since its inception in June 2023, during the Indian Prime Minister’s state visit to the US, INDUS-X has achieved notable milestones, cementing its role in strengthening the US-India defence innovation partnership.
