UDAN’s 8th Anniversary: A Transformative Journey in Indian Aviation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 8th anniversary of the UDAN (Ude Desh ke Aam Nagrik) scheme, celebrating its transformative impact on India’s aviation sector. Launched in October 2016, UDAN aimed to make air travel affordable for the common man and boost regional connectivity. The Prime Minister highlighted the increase in airports and air routes, emphasizing how the scheme has enhanced trade, commerce, and regional growth. Key Milestones of UDAN

Since its launch, over 3 lakh flights and 1.44 crore passengers have benefited from the scheme. The government has operationalized 86 airports and launched over 600 air routes, including helicopter services, to connect remote areas.

Future Aspirations

The government aims to expand the number of operational airports from 157 to 350-400 by 2047, ensuring that affordable flying reaches all corners of India.
