UPI QR Code Deployment Rises 15% in 2025, Transactions Up 33%: Report

India’s digital payments ecosystem continues to expand rapidly with UPI QR codes are growing by 15% in 2025 according to the recent report released by Worldline. The total number of QR codes in country have reached to 731.38 million and it showcasing the widespread merchant adoption across the country. Alongside with this the transaction volumes also surged by the 33% which indicates the rising preference for fast, seamless and cashless payments.

Merchants are prefers the QR codes as its a low setup cost compared to POS machines and there are no need for expensive hardware. Also the instant payments directly to bank accounts and it is easy to use for both merchants and customers.

From roadside vendors to the large retail stores these QR codes have made the digital payments accessible to everyone.

UPI vs POS Terminals: Changing Payment Trends

As the QR codes are growing rapidly the traditional payment systems are also expanding but with a slower rate.

POS terminals grew by 15% to 11.48 million in 2025.

However the UPI QR adoption is much wider because of the ease and affordability.

This indicates the clear shift toward the mobile-based contactless payments over the card-based systems.
