Indian Naval Hydrographic Department (INHD)
The INHD, operating under the Indian Navy, serves as the main agency for:

- Published over 650 electronic and paper navigation charts
- Distributed 6.5 Lakh Electronic Navigational charts last year
- Earned revenue of nearly 8000 Lakh rupees
NAVAREA VIII Coordinator
The INHD, as NAVAREA VIII coordinator, covers 26 Million sq. km of the Indian Ocean. It shares vital navigation safety information through the “India WINS” web portal, which has:
- Crossed 3.5 million views since December 2022
- An average of 3500 visitors per day
Training and International Cooperation
National Institute of Hydrography (NIH)
Located in Goa, NIH is India’s center for hydrography training. It has:
- Trained over 800 trainees from 41 countries
- Accreditation from IHO for Cat A and Cat B certificates
International Collaboration
In line with India’s SAGAR initiative, the Indian Navy has:
- Conducted joint surveys covering 89000 sq. km in the last five years
- Produced 96 charts with friendly foreign nations
- Assisted in capacity building and knowledge sharing
World Hydrography Day 2024 Events

- A maritime workshop on the 2024 theme at the National Hydrographic Office on June 20, 2024
- The annual Hydrographic Survey Committee meeting on June 21, 2024
