Noted pediatrician and the former Rajya Sabha member Dr Gopalrao Patil has passed away on the April 21, 2026 in Latur, Maharashtra. He was passed at the age of 94. He was known as the ‘Devmanus’ for his selfless services and he dedicated his life to the child healthcare and social welfare. His demise marks the end of an era for that region where he was not just the doctor but as the compassionate community leader.
A Life Dedicated to Service and Healing
He was born on October 3, 1931, in Kavtha village of Dharashiv district. Dr Patil has pursued his medical education at Osmania University.
He went on to become one of the most respected child specialists in the Latur and he eared the immense trust among patients.
His contribution also extended beyond hospitals. He provided the free medical services in rural areas and which have earned him the title of ‘Devmanus’ (God-like person) among the locals.
Political Journey and Public Life
Dr Gopalrao Patil also played the important role in public life. He also served as the Rajya Sabha member from the Bharatiya Janata Party between 1994 and 2000.
During his tenure he have contributed to the several important parliamentary committees, including,

- External Affairs
- Railways
His political career also reflected the same dedication and the integrity which have defined his medical profession.
Contribution to Education and Institutions
Apart from the healthcare and politics he was deeply involved in the field of education.
He founded the Shiv Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha which runs the well-known Rajarshi Shahu College in Latur district.
He also played the key role to establishing a branch of the Indian Pediatric Association and where he served as its first president. Ans he contributed to the development of pediatric healthcare networks.

Dr Patil’s career included roles as,
- The Lecturer at a medical college in Kurnool
- Medical officer in Kurundwad (Kolhapur district)
He received the several awards for his contributions to pediatrics and the community healthcare and highlights the his impact on both medical education and public health.
