The Women’s Asia Cup is the main regional cricket event featuring teams from across Asia, which is managed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The tournament was first conducted in 2004, but in the ODI format; however, it later changed to T20I in 2012. Since its inception, India has been the strongest team in the competition, having won the Women’s Asia Cup of 2026 and thus securing their eighth title. In the most recent finals match, played on 13th September 2026, India won against Sri Lanka by 72 runs.

Sri Lanka has clinched its maiden Women’s Asia Cup crown in the year 2024 whereas Bangladesh lifted the trophy in the year 2018.

Women’s Asia Cup Format Evolution
The event made its debut in 2004 as an ODI event. Its initial four tournaments that were held in 2004, 2005-06, 2006, and 2008, were conducted under the ODI format.
Starting from 2012, the event switched to the T20I format, which has been maintained ever since.
This evolution is a result of the increasing prominence of women’s T20 cricket at the international level.
