Project BRAHMANK of BRO Marks 16th Raising Day: Strengthening India’s Border Infrastructure

Project BRAHMANK of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has celebrated the 16th Raising Day on 29th June, 2026 at Ranaghat in Arunachal Pradesh and with this it marks the fifteen years of dedicated service in building infrastructure along the India’s northeastern strategic frontier. Since it became operational in 2011 this project has played the vital role in improving the road connectivity, enhancing military mobility, and linking the remote border villages with the national mainstream.

What is Project BRAHMANK?

Project BRAHMANK Border Roads Organisation (BRO’s) one of the most infrastructure project and it entrusted with constructing and maintaining strategic roads and bridges across the state of Arunachal Pradesh. This project covers the districts such as Siang, East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang, Shi-Yomi and some parts of the Dhemaji district in Assam.

It was raised on June 29, 2011 and this project became fully operational on December 3, 2011. Since then, it has significantly improved the connectivity in remote and mountainous regions that are critical from both defense and developmental perspectives.

Major Infrastructure Achievements

Project BRAHMANK currently maintains nearly 811 kilometres of strategic roads and around 86 bridges which includes steel bridges, arch bridges and reinforced concrete bridges and culverts.

Among the its landmark engineering accomplishments are the,

• 100-metre Steel Arch Bridge over Siyom Nallah
• 165-metre Prestressed Concrete (PSC) Bridge over Simang Nallah on the Along–Yingkiong Road

These structures have substantially improved the transportation in difficult terrain while ensuring the year-round connectivity for civilians and security forces.

During the financial year 2025-26, this project has recorded the several notable milestones. It inaugurated total 13 strategically important bridges with a comnined span of 390 metres across the Siang and Siyom valleys.

Strategic Importance for National Security

Arunachal Pradesh shares the international border with China, and making reliable road infrastructure is the strategic need.

Roads and bridges developed under Project BRAHMANK enables the quicker deployment of troops, efficient transportation of defense equipment and improved the logistics in border areas.

Also the better connectivity enhances the disaster response capabilities during landslides, floods and other natural disasters that frequently affect the region.

This infrastructure supports the both military preparedness and civilian welfare, and making the project as an important component of India’s border development strategy.

As the Project BRAHMANK primarily serves the strategic objectives, but its impact extends well beyond the national security.

With the improved road connectivity has made education, healthcare, markets and government services more accessible for the residents of remote villages.

This project has also helped to integrate the isolated communities into the national economy by reducing travel time and improving transportation for agricultural produce and essential supplies.

And the enhanced connectivity has also created the opportunities for tourism, trade, and local employment and it contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the region.
