Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu Launches AQRF to Boost India’s Quantum Technology Ecosystem

Honorable Chief Minister of the Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu has launched the Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility (AQRF) on the 14th April, 2026 which is the country’s first indigenously built open access quantum computing platform. This initiative is aims to build the sovereign quantum hardware ecosystem and to accelerate the domestic innovation. It is developed with the strong collaboration among the top scientific institutions and this facility is expected to position India as the global leader in quantum technology.

What is Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility (AQRF)?

The AQRF is the  cutting-edge facility which is designed to support the quantum computing research, testing and manufacturing in India.

  • It also includes the Amaravati 1S and Amaravati 1Q which are the India’s first indigenously developed quantum computers.
  • It is built under the Amaravati Quantum Valley initiative.
  • And main thing it was designed, assembled and tested entirely within India.

This AQRF makes the landmark achievement as it focus to in India’s journey towards the Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Key Objective of the AQRF

The primary goal of the AQRF is to establish the self-reliant quantum hardware ecosystem.

Major Objectives

  • To promote the indigenous manufacturing of the advanced computing systems.
  • It will also reduce the dependence on to the foreign quantum technology.
  • It will also enable the India to design, test and certify the own components.
  • And importantly it will break global monopoly in the critical quantum subsystems.

Collaboration of With the Top Indian Institutions

The AQRF has been developed through the powerful consortium of the India’s leading organizations,

  • Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR)
  • Indian Institute of Science (IISC)
  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

Amaravati Quantum Valley Hub

The project is part of the ambitious Amaravati Quantum Valley and which is aims to transform the region into the global quantum computing hub.

Key developments of this project is,

  • To hosting an IBM 133 qubit quantum computer
  • Also the collaboration with 80+ industry and academic partners
  • And integration of quantum cloud, research and skill development

This project will put Amravati among the top emerging quantum ecosystems in the world.

Advanced Technologies Behind the Facility

The facility will focuses on the cutting-edge technologies which are crucial for the quantum computing like the,

  • Core Technologies
  • Cryogenics (ultra-low temperature systems for quantum processors)
  • Precision electronics
  • Quantum-grade fabrication
  • Strategic Applications

These technologies have the wider applications in to the defense systems, healthcare innovation and also the semiconductor manufacturing.

Role of National Quantum Mission

The initiative also aligns with the India’s National Quantum Mission and which is aims to,

  • Develop the quantum computing, communication and the sensing technologies.
  • Will also promote research and innovation and will build the indigenous capabilities in advanced computing

This facility will adds a hardware dimension to the India’s quantum ecosystem which was earlier was focused more on the software and cloud-based solutions.

What is Quantum Computing?

Quantum computing is the next-generation computing technology which uses the quantum bits (qubits) instead of the traditional bits.

Key Features of Quantum Computing are,

  • It processes the data extra faster than the classical computers
  • Also solves complex the problems in seconds that will take years otherwise
  • And use the principles like superposition and entanglement
