Assam to Celebrate Mongeet Festival of Music, Culture, and Food

Mongeet is a festival of music, poetry, art, craft, food, culinary techniques, indigenous herbs, and culture celebrated in Majuli, Assam. The Mongeet festival started in the year 2020 as a movement of arts and music and it aims to nurture the upcoming musical talents of Assam. It was started by actor Adil Hussain and Kaushik Nath, an actor-director-turned-entrepreneur.

Assam to Celebrate Mongeet Festival of Music, Culture, and Food- Key Points

  • Mongeet festival will be held on 15th, 16th, and 17th January at Dekasang, Majuli and on 19th and 20th January at Dekasang, Sadiya.
  • This edition of the Mongeet festival will witness Montulika, a creative painting workshop, and Monmritikka, a special workshop on the rich art and sculpture of Assam.
  • It is the only festival from Assam that is designed to promote music, art, culture, and food.
  • This Festival aims to educate people about the culture of Assam and introduce the rich musicians of the state to the world.

What is Mongeet?

The Mongeet festival gives a platform for the young talent of Assam to showcase their original music and be guided and mentored by musicians such as Papon, Joi Barua, Tarali Sharma, Kalyan Baruah, Dhrubajyoto Phukan, Anurag Saikia, and Nilotpal Bora. The founder of the Mongeet festival, Kaushik Nath noted that Mongeet welcomes all genres of music including hip-hop or rap, and rock. It has no age limit for musicians.

Food at Mongeet festival

In the Mongeet festival, renowned Assamese Chef Atul Lahkar will host a masterclass, Aharor Aakholi (food and traditional kitchen) to talk about food conservation, identification of ingredients, modern cooking methods about indigenous techniques, and ways to promote regional cuisine.

The food workshop aims to make the traditional food of Assam popular. It will help the younger generation to learn about it and protect it further.
