FIFA and AIFF Launch India’s First FIFA Talent Academy for Girls in This City

In a landmark moment for Indian football, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and FIFA have joined hands to launch the country’s first-ever FIFA Talent Academy for girls in Hyderabad, Telangana. The initiative aims to transform the future of women’s football in India, providing world-class infrastructure, training, and holistic development opportunities for budding talents.

The Landmark Collaboration

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the academy was signed at the Telangana Sports Conclave in Hyderabad. The event was attended by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey. The academy is part of FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme (TDS), a global initiative designed to nurture the best young football talent. The Gachibowli Stadium Complex in Hyderabad has been chosen as the base for the academy. It will offer residential facilities, quality education, medical care, nutrition, and mental wellness programs for 30 boys and 30 girls each year.

A Game-Changer for Women’s Football

This academy is a game-changer for girls in football. It is not only the first of its kind in India but also one of the very few globally under FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme. Young talents — especially girls — from Telangana and beyond will now have access to elite infrastructure, education, and a clear pathway to the national and international stage.” The initiative is expected to significantly increase opportunities for young girls to play competitive football and aim for international representation.

AIFF’s Vision: A Path to the FIFA U17 World Cups

The academy is a critical step towards achieving India’s dream of qualifying for the U17 men’s and women’s FIFA World Cups. The launch of India’s first FIFA Talent Academy for girls and second academy for boys marks a defining moment in our journey towards equitable football development. This collaboration reflects our collective resolve to identify, nurture, and empower young talent — especially girls — from across the nation.” The academy will not only groom elite athletes but also inspire a generation of footballers who dream of representing India on the global stage.

Global Significance of the Initiative

The Hyderabad academy is among the very few globally recognized FIFA Talent Academies under the TDS. Its success could pave the way for more such institutions in India, ensuring that the country becomes a serious contender in global football over the coming years.

By offering holistic development — from sports science and nutrition to mental health and formal education — the academy is set to provide a 360-degree training ecosystem for India’s young footballers.
