India and Australia have introduced the India-Australia Roadmap for Sports Collaboration, Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the roadmap during his Australia visit, which provides for a long-term strategy for collaboration in coaching, sports science, athlete development, big sports events, sports technology and women in sports. With the major events lined up including the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad and Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics, this initiative aims to build future-ready sports collaboration between the countries, benefiting the athletes, institutions, and the entire sports ecosystem.

What Is the India-Australia Framework for Sports Cooperation?

The India-Australia Framework for Sports Cooperation is a complete way to strengthen the mutual cooperation between both countries in the field of sports.

The Framework builds on the 2023 India-Australia MoU on Cooperation in Sports and outlines how both countries could work in several areas such as,

  • Research in sports science
  • Participation in major sporting events

Big Bash League in India

The announcement of the first match in the Big Bash League (BBL) in Chennai in December 2026 is one of the main announcements under the roadmap.

Both governments have directed Cricket Australia and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to work with an aim of organizing annual BBL matches in India.
