India-Vietnam Strengthen Buddhist Ties with New MoU

In a significant diplomatic and spiritual development, India and Vietnam have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation based on the universal teachings of the Buddha—compassion, wisdom, and peace. The MoU was formalized during the exposition of the Holy Relics of the Buddha in Vietnam on the occasion of the United Nations Day of Vesak 2025, underscoring the shared cultural and spiritual heritage of both nations.

Why in News?

On May 7, 2025, a new MoU was signed between the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) and the National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), establishing the Vietnam Chapter of the IBC. The agreement coincided with the UN Vesak Day celebrations and aims to enhance bilateral cultural and spiritual cooperation through the promotion of Buddhist ideals.
