India has launched Operation Amistad to support Venezuela after devastating earthquake that caused the extensive loss of life, injuries and widespread destruction. It is a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission and it showcases India’s growing role as the first responder in international disaster relief. It also reinforces the its commitment to standing with the partner countries during the humanitarian crises.
About Operation Amistad
Operation Amistad is the India’s humanitarian relief mission that was launched to assist the Venezuela after a powerful earthquake that struck the country on 24th June, 2026.
This operation has been initiated under the India’s Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) framework and it provides the immediate emergency support to affected communities.
The “Amistand” means “Friendship” in Spanish and it symbolizes the India’s solidarity with the people of Venezuela.
Indian Air Force Dispatches Relief Aircraft
Under Operation Amistad the Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed two C-17 Globemaster aircraft on 26th June, 2026.
The aircraft carries the humanitarian relief supplies and a 41 member rescue team to assist ongoing relief and rescue efforts in Venezuela.
India’s Relief Package to Venezuela
It includes a comprehensive range of humanitarian assistance designed to support both immediate rescue operations and medical care.
The relief consignment includes,
- 30 tons of relief supplies
- 6 tons of medical and medical equipment
- Two BHISHM cube portable hospitals
- Self-reliance Indian medical task force
- Indian Army Field Hospital unit
- Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief pallets
Role of the 41 Member Rescue and Medical Team
Also, a 42-member specialist team comprising experienced rescue personnel and healthcare professionals is sent by India.
This team will closely work with the Venezuelan authorities in,
- Search and rescue operations
- Emergency medical treatment
- Humanitarian assistance
- Disaster response coordination
India Expressed Solidarity With Venezuela
The Government of India expressed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
India also stands shoulder to shoulder with the Government and people of Venezuela during this difficult period.
India is also in touch with the Venezuelan Government and stands ready to provide further assistance if required.
