PM Vishwakarma Completes 3 Years: 30 Lakh Artisans Registered Under the Scheme

PM Vishwakarma Scheme marks three years on 17th September 2026, with registration of 30 lakh artisans and craftspeople after completing the three-stage verification process. Started in 2023, this scheme supports artisans from end to end with training, modern toolkit, concessional credit, incentive for digital transaction, and marketing support. Celebrations for third-anniversary of the scheme will be conducted in Kolkata, West Bengal.

PM Vishwakarma Scheme: Key Features

PM Vishwakarma Scheme was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 17th September 2023. This scheme is targeted towards providing institutional support to traditional artisans and craftspeople in 18 identified trades.

This scheme has been designed to strengthen the traditional skills of artisans and craftsmen while adopting modern tools and accessing formal financial institutions.

The 30 lakh number of registration has been accomplished after completing the mandatory three-stage verification of the beneficiaries for registration under the scheme.

Around 24.50 lakh Vishwakarmas have also benefited from Basic Skill Training under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Institutional Credit

Availability of affordable institutional credit is one more component of the scheme. Till now, loan support worth ₹1 lakh has been extended to 6.18 lakh Vishwakarmas at the reduced interest rate of 5% annually.

The loan support extended under the above-mentioned component amounts to ₹5,297 crore.

Improved Tool Kits Extended to Artisans Via India Post

Improving productivity through provision of modern tools to artisans is one of the components of the above-mentioned scheme.

Under this component, 18.15 lakh improved tool kits have been distributed to the artisans doorstep via India Post.

These improved tools are expected to aid artisans in improving productivity and efficiency of their work.

PM Vishwakarma Scheme in West Bengal

The government of West Bengal has started implementing PM Vishwakarma Scheme in May 2026.

Up to now, 3,000 artisans have completed the three stages of verification and have been registered under the scheme. Now skill training is underway for these registered artisans.

The anniversary event in Kolkata would involve distribution of PM Vishwakarma certificates, Basic Skill Training certificates, loan and tool kits certificates.

Third Anniversary Of PM Vishwakarma 2026

The third anniversary will take place on September 17, 2026, at the Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium in Kolkata.

Among other dignitaries attending this function, we can find Union Minister of MSME Jitan Ram Manjhi and Chief Minister of West Bengal Suvendu Adhikari, as well as Minister of State for MSME Shobha Karandlaje.

Exhibition with items produced by local craftsmen and craftswomen will allow beneficiaries to showcase and promote their products.
