PMDDKY (Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana) Scheme completed its first year since launch on October 11, 2026. Launched on October 11, 2025, after being announced in the Union Budget 2025-26, the scheme is aimed at the development of 100 districts that are deficient in agriculture production, cropping intensity and credit disbursed for agriculture purposes. The scheme integrates 36 central schemes of 11 ministries/ departments of the Government of India, along with state level schemes, with an aim of improving productivity of farms, irrigation facilities, storage, crop diversification and income of farmers.
What is Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana?
PMDDKY is a district-based programme for the development of agriculture from the Indian Government. The prime target of PMDDKY is to enhance agricultural performance in 100 districts that have been selected based on the consideration of various aspects of agriculture in these districts.
These aspects include soil quality, precipitation, availability of water, crop rotation, infrastructure, and the requirements of farmers in the concerned districts.
The government of each district plans actions according to the agricultural issues faced in their respective districts and does not plan any one kind of intervention for all districts.
In the first year, efforts were made to devise the implementation structure and plan for the districts. At the one-year anniversary held in New Delhi, Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan stressed that future actions must reflect the enhancement of productivity, irrigation, agricultural finance, and income of farmers.
Six Goals of the PMDDKY Scheme
The program centers on six interrelated goals pertaining to agriculture development.
| Goal | Main Focus |
| Increasing agricultural productivity | Raising productivity by using improved agricultural practices, technology, and support for agriculture |
| Alternative crops and practices | Diversifying agricultural practices and encouraging sustainable agriculture by planting appropriate alternative crops |
| Post-harvest storage | Erecting storage units at panchayat and block levels |
| Irrigation facilities | Ensures adequate irrigation facilities |
| Agricultural credit | Providing farmers access to the short- and long-term credit |
| Implementation and Governance | Improving coordination, implementation, and monitoring |
These goals aim at solving various problems associated with agricultural development. Better irrigation and agricultural practices will increase productivity, whereas better storage facilities and agricultural credit will reduce post-harvest losses and costs of cultivating crops.
