Veteran Tamil film actor Rajesh passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025, in Chennai, following a sudden heart attack. He was 75. His death has left a deep void in the Indian film fraternity, particularly the Tamil cinema industry. Rajesh is survived by his daughter Divya and son Deepak. His wife, Joan Sylvia, had predeceased him. His mortal remains have been kept at his residence in Ramapuram, Chennai, for the public to pay their respects.
From School Teacher to Silver Screen Icon
Born on December 20, 1949, in Mannargudi, located in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvarur district, Rajesh began his professional life as a school teacher before making a mark in cinema. His film journey began with his debut role in “Aval Oru Thodarkathai” (1974), directed by the legendary K. Balachander. His first lead role came with “Kannipparuvathile” (1979), produced by Rajkannu.
A Career Spanning Nearly Five Decades
In a film career lasting close to 50 years, Rajesh acted in over 150 films spanning Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam languages. He was known for his versatility, effortlessly transitioning between intense character roles and dramatic leads. Noteworthy performances came in films like:
