Historical Significance of Ambala in the Revolt of 1857
During the inauguration, Amit Shah highlighted the historical significance of Ambala Cantonment in India’s freedom struggle.
He stated that revolutionary soldiers had launched an armed uprising against British rule in Ambala on 10 May 1857, which became part of the wider rebellion against colonial rule.
In conventional accounts of Indian history, the major military uprising at Meerut on 10 May 1857 is commonly identified as the beginning of the widespread Revolt of 1857. The inauguration highlighted Ambala’s role in the unrest and resistance preceding and accompanying that rebellion.
The memorial aims to preserve the memory of freedom fighters and educate younger generations about their sacrifices.
