ESIC Launches SPREE 2025 to Expand Social Security Coverage

In a landmark move to broaden social security coverage, the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has launched SPREE 2025 — the Scheme for Promotion of Registration of Employers and Employees. The scheme, announced during the 196th ESI Corporation meeting in Shimla, is set to run from July 1 to December 31, 2025, offering a one-time registration opportunity for previously unregistered establishments and workers, including contractual and temporary employees. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, who emphasized that SPREE 2025 is a critical step toward building a welfare-oriented and inclusive labour ecosystem.

Why in News?

ESIC approved SPREE 2025 to simplify the registration process under the ESI Act, 1948. It provides immunity from past inspections and contribution demands, encouraging voluntary compliance by employers. This move aims to bring contractual, informal, and left-out workers under the umbrella of social security and healthcare benefits.
