In a significant boost to India’s artificial intelligence ecosystem, Microsoft and Yotta Data Services have announced a strategic partnership to support AI adoption across the country. This collaboration will integrate Microsoft Azure’s AI services with Yotta’s Shakti Cloud platform, aiming to strengthen domestic AI capabilities and digital infrastructure.
Strengthening India’s AI Infrastructure Through Collaboration
This initiative aligns closely with the IndiaAI Mission, a flagship government programme under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The mission is focused on building a robust AI ecosystem within the country, and as of May 2025, it has received over 500 proposals for the development of indigenous AI models.
By combining Microsoft’s advanced AI models and tools with Yotta’s high-performance AI compute infrastructure, the partnership aims to offer powerful and accessible AI services to a wide range of users — including:
- Public and private sector organisations
- Research institutions
- Startups
- Universities, including the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)
Driving Sector-Wide AI Innovation
The integrated AI platform is designed to support critical sectors such as:
- Agriculture
- Healthcare
- Education
- Finance
- Retail
- Manufacturing
By enabling real-time AI solutions with reduced latency, the collaboration ensures enhanced performance and faster deployment of applications across various use cases.
Data Sovereignty and National Infrastructure Focus
An important highlight of the partnership is Yotta’s India-hosted infrastructure, which guarantees that data remains within national borders, complying with the country’s data sovereignty policies. This is especially significant in the context of increasing concerns around data privacy and localization.
Part of a Larger AI Ecosystem Initiative
This announcement follows Microsoft’s earlier 2025 collaboration with IndiaAI, a unit of the Digital India Corporation, which included the launch of:
- AI Centres of Excellence
- AI Productivity Labs
These efforts are designed to democratize AI access and ensure its inclusion in economic development strategies, supporting sustainable and inclusive growth in India.
