Odisha CM inaugurates Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Center in Bhubaneswar

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Centre and Research Institute (BSCCRI) in Bhubaneswar. This state-of-the-art facility, established in collaboration with the Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Bengaluru, represents a leap forward in making high-quality cancer treatment accessible and affordable to patients.

Vision for Comprehensive Cancer Care

The inauguration of BSCCRI is a milestone in Odisha’s healthcare landscape, with the government and philanthropic entities coming together to address the urgent need for advanced cancer treatment facilities in the region. The Chief Minister’s initiative underscores a commitment to providing comprehensive care to cancer patients, leveraging the latest in medical research and technology.

A Collaborative Endeavor

The establishment of the Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Centre is the result of a significant collaboration between the Odisha government and the renowned Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Bengaluru. With an investment of Rs 410 crore, this partnership aims to replicate the Bengaluru centre’s success in providing top-notch care and research in the field of oncology.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Services

BSCCRI is equipped with 750 beds, addressing a critical gap in the availability of specialized cancer care beds in the region. The centre boasts advanced facilities for radiotherapy and chemotherapy, capable of treating 300 and 150 patients daily, respectively. This capacity ensures that a significant number of patients can receive life-saving treatments without the delays that often compromise cancer care outcomes.

Affordable Care for All

One of the core missions of BSCCRI is to make cancer treatment affordable. The center aims to provide financial relief to patients and their families, ensuring that high-quality care is not beyond the reach of the average citizen. This initiative is particularly crucial in a country where healthcare expenses can be a significant burden on families dealing with cancer.
