PM Modi Reviews ₹30,000 Crore Infrastructure Projects in 51st PRAGATI Meeting

Honorable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi chaired the 51st PRAGATI meeting and it focused on to accelerating the infrastructure development, clean energy expansion, urban sanitation and water security projects across the India. In the review meeting, PM assessed the major projects worth nearly to the ₹30,000 crore across railways, power, and road sectors across nine states.

What is PRAGATI?

PRAGATI stands for the Pro Active Governance and Timely Implementation.

It is an ICT enabled with the multi-modal platform launched by the Government of India to improve the coordination between the Centre and States for faster implementation of projects and schemes.

The platform helps the,

• Monitors the major infrastructure projects
• Resolve administrative bottlenecks
• Improve the inter-agency coordination
• Ensure timely delivery of public projects

PRAGATI has become the important governance mechanism for high-level project monitoring.

PM Reviews ₹30,000 Crore Infrastructure Projects

During the 51st meeting, Prime Minister Modi reviewed the seven critical infrastructure projects covering the,

• Railways
• Power
• Roads

These projects span across nine states and involve a cumulative investment of around ₹30,000 crore.

The review focused on to the,

• Timely execution
• Faster clearances
• Inter-departmental coordination
• Issue resolution

The Prime Minister has stressed that delays in public projects increase costs and deprive citizens of the timely development benefits.

Rooftop Solar Push in Mission Mode

The major focus of the meeting was the expansion of rooftop solar energy in urban India.

The Prime Minister has also emphasized that rooftop solar adoption should be accelerated in the,

• Cities
• Residential colonies
• Public institutions
• Urban infrastructure

He called for a mission mode approach to improve the,

• Energy security
• Clean energy generation
• Reduced electricity costs
• Sustainable urban development

The government has also discussed the innovative use of canals for solar panel installations.

Solar Panels Over Canals Model

Prime Minister Modi has encouraged for the exploration of solar panels along and above canals.

This approach can provide multiple benefits to the,

The Prime Minister has also reviewed the Ken-Betwa River Inter-linking Project, which is one of the India’s major water infrastructure initiatives.

He stated that this project should become a model for resolving inter-state water issues through the,

• Mission-mode implementation

The government also encouraged the states to explore similar opportunities for,

• Water conservation
• Groundwater recharge

Focus on Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0

The meeting has also reviewed the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0.

Prime Minister Modi has stressed that the mission should move beyond infrastructure creation and focus on to the measurable outcomes.

States were asked to speed up the sanitation-related infrastructure development.

Monthly Review Mechanism for Social Sector Schemes

Also a significant administrative reform was also highlighted during the meeting.

The Cabinet Secretary informed that the system of monthly reviews of social sector schemes at the state level has now been operationalized.

The first scheme selected for regular review is Swachh Bharat Mission.

Vadhavan Port as Multi-Modal Logistics Hub

The Prime Minister has strongly emphasized that the Vadhavan Port project should become a model for integrated transport infrastructure.
