In a major move to align India’s youth with the global green economy, Shell India has partnered with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to launch a structured training programme focused on green skills and electric vehicle (EV) technologies. The programme, implemented via the Directorate General of Training (DGT), aims to equip students, faculty, and trainers with cutting-edge knowledge in EV systems, battery technology, diagnostics, and safety. The multi-tiered skilling initiative is being rolled out across five major states, supporting India’s transition toward clean energy and net-zero emissions.
Why in News?
On June 13, 2025, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) announced the launch of a new training programme in partnership with Shell India, aimed at boosting green skills and electric mobility expertise among the youth. The initiative comes at a time when India is aggressively pushing its net-zero emissions goals, and the demand for skilled manpower in the EV and renewable energy sectors is growing rapidly.

- 90-hour Job-Oriented Skills Course at 12 ITIs with Shell-backed labs
- 50-hour Foundational Green Skills Module in additional ITIs without physical labs
Training of Trainers (ToT): Over 250 trainers to be skilled under the programme
Certification & Placement
- Co-branded certificates by Shell and DGT
- Structured placement support for trained candidates
