Why the scheme is in the news?
A meeting was recently held to review the progress of two important initiatives, namely, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G), which was chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Objectives: –
- Ensuring sustained open defecation-free (ODF) behaviors and leaving no one behind.
- Accessible solid and liquid waste management facilities that reinforce ODF behaviors and provide safe waste management interventions in rural areas.
- Promoting cost-effective and eco-friendly technologies for sustainable sanitation practices.
- The objective is to establish community-managed sanitation systems that prioritize scientific solid and liquid waste management, to improve rural cleanliness.
- Creating a positive impact on gender and promoting social inclusion by improving sanitation, particularly in marginalized communities.
The target of the Scheme: – The Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) phase II aims to maintain sustainable open defecation-free behaviors.
Beneficiaries: – The initiative is expected to improve the management of solid and liquid waste in rural India, leading to a significant enhancement in the health of villagers across the country.
Budget Allocation: – Rs. 1,40,881 crores for 2020-21 to 2024-25.
