Honorable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has announced the launch of the Uttar Pradesh Startup Mission portal along with UP Startup Policy 2026. The government aims to develop the existing startup ecosystem in the state further through the new initiative. At the launch ceremony, the chief minister revealed that there are more than 24,000 startups in Uttar Pradesh, including eight unicorns. The government also handed out incentives worth more than ₹3.42 crores to 107 startups and ₹1.79 crore to nine incubators.
UP Startup Mission Portal and Policy 2026
The portal that has just been launched will give access to startups and entrepreneurs to government services and opportunities. The UP Startup Policy 2026 is targeted at developing the ecosystem for business, innovation and employment.
Adityanath said that the government will offer the youth funding, incubation and other resources to help them make their ideas successful.
Number of Startups in Uttar Pradesh Surpasses 24,000
As per the data provided by the chief minister, Uttar Pradesh had roughly 120 startups before 2017, whereas there are more than 24,000 startups now. The startups from this state include eight unicorns.
Another point mentioned by Adityanath was about women entrepreneurs because he said that more than half of the startups in Uttar Pradesh are run by women entrepreneurs.
New Steps to Help Startups and Innovations
Some of the measures which would help in strengthening the startup ecosystem include supporting Centres of Excellence in fields like,
- MedTech
- Drones
- Quantum computing
- Space technology
- Robotics
- Green hydrogen
Furthermore, the state also intends to increase its Fund of Funds and make available land for lease and plug-and-play spaces.
Incentives worth ₹3.42 Crore Distributed
On the occasion of launch event, incentives worth more than ₹3.42 crore have been handed out to 107 startups and nine incubators got ₹1.79 crore. New incubators have been given certification.
The government has also been supporting initiatives related to startups of IIT Kanpur, IIT-BHU and IIITs along with funding separately allotted to universities for carrying out research and innovations.
Significance of UP Startup Policy 2026
This policy comes in the backdrop when the state is aspiring to leverage its huge youth population as demographic dividend. For the government, entrepreneurship, education, employment and innovation are all related aspects of economic growth.
The development of startups, incubators and research infrastructure may open up more avenues for young entrepreneurs.
