The Indian National Congress (INC) has announced VD Satheesan as Kerala’s next Chief Minister. With this announcement it marks end of the political suspense after the United Democratic Front has secured a commanding election victory. Also senior leaders like KC Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala also seen as the contenders for the CM post.
Leadership Race Ends After Days of Uncertainty
VD Satheesan has emerged as the Congress party’s choice for the Chief Minister after the UDF’s strong performance in the Kerala Assembly elections.
The announcement ends nearly 10 days of suspense over who will lead the State for upcoming 5 years.
The leadership contest had drawn the attention because of many competing claims from senior party leaders and specially KC Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala.
UDF’s Massive Election Victory
The Congress led United Democratic Front (UDF) had secured the major electoral victory in Kerala.
The alliance reportedly won the 102 seats and crossed the two-thirds majority mark.
This result ended the hopes of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by Pinarayi Vijayan for a third straight term.
The scale of the victory strengthened the Satheesan’s claim because he had served as Leader of Opposition during the campaign period.
