A Bengaluru-based sovereign AI startup, Sarvam AI has entered the unicorn club after the raising of $234 million in the first close of its Series B funding round. This investment values the company at around $1.5 billion post-money and making it as one of the most valuable AI startups in the country and it reinforcing the India’s ambitions to build competitive artificial intelligence technologies.
The funding round was led by the HCLTech with the strategic investment around $150 million, alongside with the participation from Bessemer Venture Partners and existing investors Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners.
Sarvam AI Becomes India’s Newest Unicorn
It was founded in the year 2023 by AI researchers and entrepreneurs Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar, Sarvam AI has rapidly emerged as India’s one of the leading artificial intelligence companies.
The startup has achieved the unicorn status after raising $234 million in the first close of its planned $300 million Series B funding round.
With a post-money valuation of around $1.5 billion, Sarvam joins an elite group of the Indian startups which are valued at over $1 billion.
HCLTech Leads Funding with $150 Million Investment
The major highlight of the funding round is the strategic partnership between the Sarvam AI and HCLTech.
The technology giant has invested around $150 million and making it as the largest contributor to the funding round.
Bessemer Venture Partners has also joined the round, while existing investors Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners also increased their support.
This partnership goes beyond financial investment. HCLTech will leverage the its global client network, engineering expertise, software assets and enterprise transformation capabilities to help the Sarvam scale its AI offerings across industries.
